Scotland conjures up images of wild romance, misty Highlands and kilted clans. But when you visit, you'll also find some of the world's best theatre, opera and music in stately Edinburgh and a distinctly forward-looking vibe in cosmopolitan Glasgow. And everywhere you go you'll encounter the warmth and charm of the locals.
Scotland is proud of its unique past and culture. The Royal Mile between Holyrood Palace and Edinburgh Castle is drenched in history, while Braemar's Royal Highland Gathering features bagpipes and caber tossing. Play a round at St Andrew's or fish for salmon in the Tay. Wander the heather-covered moors, dip your toe in an ice-cold loch or hike the dramatic coastline of the Isle of Skye. At the end of the day, sit in front of the fire in a country pub and sample a local single malt whiskey.
You can fly directly to Glasgow on charter flights instead of travelling via London. Train service between cities and major towns in excellent, but rent a car if you want to explore the Highlands.
