Once the hedonistic retreat for 1950s Hollywood stars, Acapulco continues to be one of the sun destinations to go for round-the-clock fun. By day you can relax on the famous beaches ringing the bay, and at night you can dance until dawn at the hopping clubs and discos.
Every visitor to Acapulco must see the daring cliff divers at La Quebrada at least once. But there's plenty of fun offshore too. Parasail high above the bay or dive deep at the Isla de la Roqueta. Or head inland to Taxco where you can shop for silver, then watch the sun set over the beach at Pie de la Cuesta.
Despite being a long-time favourite, Acapulco is surprisingly affordable and has some of the best deals under the sun. Most resorts are clustered in the main hotel zone along the best beaches, near lots of restaurants and the popular open-air oceanfront dance clubs. But for Acapulco at it's most luxurious, choose a hotel further west at Playa Diamante.
