If you want uncrowded beaches and a great vacation value, you don't have to look any further than the resort area of Playa Ancon, near Cienfeugos. Although it's less well known than other Cuban destinations, Ancon is a great place to enjoy the sun and to explore Cuba's rich colonial heritage.
The unpretentious white sand beaches along the Ancon peninsula are perfect for a cheap and cheerful family holiday. There's great diving and snorkeling on Cayo Blanco and you can take the kids on day trips to sugar plantations or the mountain forests. But be sure to set aside time to visit the two nearby UNESCO World Heritage sites. Historic Cienfuegos oozes Old World French flavour, while Trinidad's Spanish colonial streets are among the best preserved anywhere.
Packages use flights into Cienfuegos and include transfers to Playa Ancon hotels. The resorts are moderate and Ancon all-inclusive resort packages are perfect for families, single travellers or groups of friends looking for a great deal. Prices are usually very affordable, even during peak periods.
